Ethereum bar replay on Bybit, Binance, OKX and Coinbase

Where ETH history starts on each exchange, why it is shorter than Bitcoin’s in some places and the same in others – and which ETH market to replay.

Short answer

Edgetrail replays Ethereum on 66 ETH markets of four exchanges. The longest ETH 1-minute history is ETH-USD on Coinbase, from 18 May 2016 – 302 days after Bitcoin on the same exchange; on Binance, ETH spot starts on the same day as BTC, 17 August 2017. As a perpetual, ETH on Bybit goes back furthest as the inverse ETHUSD (25 January 2019), 2.1 years before Bybit’s ETHUSDT perpetual (15 March 2021, measured on 4 November 2026).

Every trading market quoted in USD, USDT, USDC and similar stablecoins, without dated futures; measured on 4 November 2026, 16:18 UTC. “At most” = minutes since the first candle; minutes without trades and maintenance pauses are not subtracted. Funding = rate per interval in the snapshot taken on 4 November 2026, 16:18 UTC, positive means longs pay.

Choosing an ETH market for a backtest

  • Most years: ETH-USD on Coinbase (10.5 years) or ETHUSDT on Binance spot (9.2 years).
  • The perpetual you trade: ETHUSDT on Binance USDⓈ-M from 27 November 2019, ETH-USDT-SWAP on OKX from 25 December 2019 and ETHUSDT on Bybit from 15 March 2021 – Bybit’s ETH perpetual is 355 days younger than its BTC perpetual.
  • ETH against Bitcoin: pairs like ETHBTC are markets in their own right. Across all quote currencies ETH trades in 16 spot markets on Binance, 9 on OKX and 6 on Coinbase, and Edgetrail replays every one of them.

Ethereum was #2 by 24-hour turnover across all nine market types ($32.8 bn) at the time of measurement. Testing the same rules on ETH and on Bitcoin is a quick robustness check: a setup that only works on one of the two is often fitted to it.

Funding on ETH perpetuals

Replay results leave out funding. In the snapshot taken on 4 November 2026, 16:18 UTC, a $10,000 ETH long held for one day would have paid about $3 on Bybit (0.01% every 8 hours) and paid about $3 on Binance (0.01% every 8 hours) – one snapshot, not a forecast. Work out your own holding period with the funding fee calculator and compare trading fees in crypto futures fees compared.
