Free trading journal template

A clean CSV for Excel or Google Sheets – and a direct way into Edgetrail later.

Short answer

The template is a CSV file with nine columns: Date, Symbol, Side, Entry Price, Exit Price, Size, Fees, Realized PnL and Account, plus two example rows. It opens in Excel, Numbers and Google Sheets. When you move to a journal, Edgetrail’s CSV import recognises every column automatically.

Download the template (CSV)

How to use it

  1. Download the file and open it in your spreadsheet app.
  2. Delete the two example rows and log one row per closed trade.
  3. Enter the realised P&L from your exchange if you have it – it already includes fees and funding.
  4. When you want statistics per setup, replay and a routine, import the file into Edgetrail.

What a spreadsheet will not do for you

A sheet records results, but it does not calculate expectancy per setup, handle partial exits as one position or remind you of your rules before the first trade. The comparison of journal and spreadsheet goes into detail, and the guide how to keep a trading journal explains what to log and when to review it.

Two example rows, calculated

A long trade on BTCUSDT: entry $67,250, exit $68,110, size 0.2 BTC, fees $14.89 (0.055% taker on both sides). Realised P&L = (68,110 − 67,250) × 0.2 − 14.89 = $157.11. A short trade on ETHUSDT: entry $2,480, exit $2,512, size 3 ETH, fees $8.23. Realised P&L = (2,480 − 2,512) × 3 − 8.23 = −$104.23. Together that is +$52.88, a win rate of 50% and a profit factor of 157.11 ÷ 104.23 = 1.51. Two trades say nothing about a system yet – fill in at least 30, better 100, before you trust the numbers.

If you leave the P&L column empty, Edgetrail calculates it from entry, exit, size and fees on import; if you fill it in, the exchange’s exact value is used.

The terms on this page – realised P&L, maker and taker fees, win rate and profit factor – are defined in the trading metrics glossary.
