Trailing and static drawdown calculator
Where your drawdown floor is, how much room is left – and how much you may still lose today.
Short answer
Static drawdown: the floor is the starting balance minus the maximum drawdown and never moves. Trailing drawdown: the floor is the highest balance so far minus the maximum drawdown, but – as at most futures prop firms – it stops rising once it reaches the starting balance. Example: $100,000 start, 10% trailing, highest balance $104,000 → floor $94,000; at a balance of $101,500 there are $7,500 of room. With a 5% daily loss limit and −$1,200 today, $3,800 remain for today.
The formulas
Drawdown amount = starting balance × max drawdown %.
Static floor = starting balance − drawdown amount.
Trailing floor = min(highest balance − drawdown amount, starting balance).
Room to the floor = current balance − floor.
Daily loss limit = starting balance × max daily loss %; room left today = limit + today’s result (if negative).

Prop firms differ: some trail on closed balance, some on equity including open positions, some stop trailing at the starting balance and some do not. This calculator uses closed balances and stops the trailing floor at the starting balance – the same logic as the prop firm mode in Edgetrail.
In the Edgetrail app
The prop firm mode tracks these numbers against your closed trades automatically, together with the profit target and minimum trading days, and warns at 75% and 100% of each limit. Edgetrail costs $24 a month or $199 a year; the first 50 Founders pay $99 once, after that a Lifetime plan costs $249 once. The first 14 days are free without a credit card, and every payment comes with a 14-day money-back guarantee.

Frequently asked questions
What is trailing drawdown?
A drawdown limit that moves up with your highest balance. At many futures prop firms it stops once it reaches the starting balance, so it never rises above it.
What is the difference between static and trailing drawdown?
A static floor stays at the starting balance minus the limit. A trailing floor follows your highest balance, so profits raise the level you must not fall below.
Does this calculator count open positions?
No, it works with balances you enter. Many prop firms include open positions, so leave a buffer.
