R-multiple calculator
Measure every trade in units of risk instead of dollars.
Short answer
The R-multiple says what a trade made relative to what it risked. For a long: R = (exit − entry) ÷ (entry − stop); for a short: R = (entry − exit) ÷ (stop − entry). A trade risking $2 per unit that closes $5 in profit is +2.5 R; a full stop-out is −1 R. Measuring in R makes trades of different sizes and markets comparable.
Why R beats dollars
A $500 win on a $1,000 risk is worse than a $200 win on a $100 risk. R removes position size from the picture, so you can compare setups, markets and months fairly – and see whether your winners really pay for your losers.
R with fees
Edgetrail calculates R with fees included, so a trade that hits its 2 R target after fees shows slightly below 2 R. That is the honest number for your statistics.
A worked example with fees
You buy 0.5 BTC on a perpetual at $68,000 with the stop at $67,320. The risk is $680 per BTC, so $340 for the position – that is 1 R. You sell at $69,700: the gross profit is $850, or 2.5 R. With a taker fee of 0.055% on both sides ($18.70 on entry and $19.17 on exit, $37.87 together) the net profit is $812.13, which is 2.39 R. Over a hundred trades, that difference of 0.11 R per trade adds up to 11 R – which is why Edgetrail calculates R after fees, to eight decimal places.

Frequently asked questions
What is a good R-multiple?
There is no single good value; what matters is the average R together with the win rate. A strategy winning 40% of the time needs an average winner clearly above 1.5 R to be profitable.
What does −1R mean?
The trade lost exactly the amount you risked between entry and stop. Losses larger than −1R usually mean slippage, a moved stop or fees.
